Google Earth

I spend last few days with searching too many places with Google earth on my desk. Accidentally I found something that very interesting for me. I found some secret military base in the middle of nowhere. Before this I just now Area51 as US secret military base, but there is so much more secret military base you can find when you explore it with Google earth.

johnston atollI do not know why Google earth takes this secret military base photograph. Take a look at this picture below; if Area51 is in the middle of Nevada desert, this Air base is located in the middle of big ocean. I think Google earth takes few picture until can display this detail of Air base. If you have a Google earth application on your desk, just search this location with “Johnston Atoll” you will know what I talk about.

midway islandAnother example is “Midway Island” this secret military base also located in the middle of big ocean too.

Who have those secret military bases? I do not know exactly. For what purpose Area51, Johnston Atoll and midway island for? I do not know either. Why I write this article down? Just to expose my curiosity. I think so much people have their own experience with this great Google earth application. It help geologist explore and learn about our earth much easier. I think so much secret will be revealed soon with this feature, including military secret like Area51 too.

  3. These are actually not secret and you can find basic info about them and you can find out thier locations other ways. They just happen to be built in the middle of the pacific ocean. Most of them in fact were built durring WWII to help refuel and restock aircraft and ships on the pacific front.

  4. I wouldnt say that the base is a secret, just not really discussed. The base is called J.I., or Johnston Island and where all of our brances of the Military store and dispose their chemical munitions. It is typically a one year tour of duty follwed by a 2 year tour in Hawaii. Soldiers also get roughly 2 wees per year in Hawaii for some R&R.

  5. Gwhite is 100% correct. My sister was born on Midway Island in 1976 and we lived in Hawaii afterwards. My father was in the Navy. Also, last I heard, Midway island is now mostly a tourist attraction rather than a military base.

  6. I want to play with the Earth I want to grad it and zoom in it, look at the citys.

  7. You idiot. Johnston Island operations was shut down many years ago, the buildings demolished and it is now a bird sactuary.

  8. I was stationed on Midway Island from 1970-1972 in the U.S. Navy and at that time there was two bases one of which was in fact very secret.U.S.Naval Facility and U.S. Naval Station Midway.
This Island was one mile by one and one half mile in size. It was a wonderful experience and the hottest and coldest ever recorded was 89 degrees and 56 degrees. Prety desolute as the two islands, Eastern & Sand were devistated during World War II. My son was born there march 12, 1972. There are more different birds per area than anywhere in the world and of course the home of the Lasahn Albatros (Gooney Bird). The only sand on the island was the baseball diamond which was shipped in from hawaii which is 1675 miles east and the remainder is white ground up coral. The snorkeling and diving is tough to be matched anywhere.
They both have been closed and this is a bird sancuary and diving resort.
