Lite Review

As expected, no matter how good a bill is, there will be people who would go against it. The problem is climate issue is a national concern thus people are expected to join hands in order to counteract its effect. This should be the case; this must be what is happening right now on Climate Security. Sad to say, instead of supporting the bill, a lot of people would go against it.

Opponent provided delaying tactics thus ending up with a “cloture” vote. There should be 60 votes needed to make Climate Security a law, but there were only 48 senators who voted in favor of it having 6 absentee members who just provided a letter of support. Here’s a quick recap:

• There were 48 senators who go for “Yea,” meaning that they want to approve the bill thus addressing global warming issues right ahead.
• On the other hand, there were 36 senators who voted “Nay,” which connotes that they don’t want to do anything about climate problem
• 6 senators were absent  but they simply sent a letter addressing that they want to approve the bill
• 10 senators were not around and did not provide any official support.

Finally, the president and CEO of the National Wildlife Federation in the name of Larry Schweiger presented his statement about the just concluded voting. He said that he is glad since a lot of senators who previously buried their head in the sand had now opened their eyes on the perils brought by global warming. The hitch is, they are doing means that would just stop the Congress from doing what should be done about the problem. He said that the right time to address the issue is right now. Climate change had threatened economic state, national security, and natural resources which is the bread and butter of every American. He further stress that these people who voted against Climate Security are exactly the one who do not want to recharge the failing economy, who do not want to safeguard families against the perils brought by global warming. Lastly, he assures the public that despite the failure, they will make a stronger global warming legislation in the next preceding year. Senators should be listening to science and observing the real condition of the world instead of just hearing the plea of oil companies.

This only shows that people are torn between choosing what’s right rather than just hearing their egoistic self. Global warming should be addressed; it is not something which will suddenly stop from occurring in just a blink of an eye. People should have a common voice, a voice that reflects what is beneficial for all. We cannot turn back the hands of time, each minute that passes, the world become a more and more dangerous place. Act the soonest possible time if you want your children to have a bright future, it’s a matter of time and the right decision. Climate Security may not answer all global warming concern but at least, it responds to some.
